BRIGHTSIDE: Yuma Fire Department received grant from Walmart
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - Five Walmart stores in the Yuma County came together to award the Yuma Fire Department (YFD) with a $6,500 grant.
Earlier this month Walmart officials said that Walmart has a budget for grants to give out through the year to provide for communities and nonprofit agencies that are impacting their community in a positive way.
In this case, YFD received their grant to go towards community programs, such as their stop the bleed program.
The stop the bleed program deals with traumatic injuries and bleeding control. Fire officials said by having this program, it allows them to teach people who are the immediate responders in the event of a serious injury, how to prepare until first responders get there.
At first, four Walmart's went to Station One to present YFD with a $5,000 check. A week later a fifth Walmart presented the department with another $1,500 check, totaling YFD's grant to $6,500.
