One of Yuma County’s oldest groups continues to help those in need
An emotional check presentation suprises one non profit
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma's own New Class Car Club is considered to be one of the Desert Southwest's legacy clubs. Established sometime in the 70s the club has grown in size and in its mission.
What started off to be a group of trend-setters has grown to become a fundraising champion. New Class is known for raising money for local students who wouldn't qualify for traditional scholarships and for families struggling to pay medical bills.
On Sunday, February 27, however, they were helping another nonprofit, the Cancer Resource Center. On January 22, the club held a car show to benefit the cancer center and the response from the public was moving.
In the public's view, New Class Car Club is as accredited as they come, they're known for being community leaders and role models. So, when it comes to taking part in any club-related events, the public can trust that they'll always do the right thing.
The show caught the attention of clubs from Yuma County, Imperial County, Sonora, and Baja California. There were classics, hot rods, modern muscle, and of course lowriders.
The event was held at the Texas Roadhouse restaurant, a long-time supporter of local nonprofits. So much so that when the co-owner of the restaurant saw the amount, he was moved by the donation.
According to attendees of the check presentation, the nonprofit was expecting roughly $2,000. But when the check was unveiled it read just under $9,000.
The Cancer Resource Center is a nonprofit that relies on grants and the generosity of the public in order to help patients and their families.
Funds are used to provide patients with support, scarves, wigs, and even lodging fuel vouchers. The Cancer Resource Center is always in need of donations, whether monetary, supplies or even someone's time.
If you're interested in donating or volunteering you can call or visit the Yuma Regional Medical Center Volunteer Services Department.
