Migrant heat-related deaths down this year compared to 2022

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma County locals know that summer in the desert brings high temperatures, but what many of us forget is that our heat can be deadly.

From June to September, the state of Arizona, specifically Yuma County, can experience dangerous temperatures.

And the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office said many people in our area are unprepared to deal with the heat.

So far this year, 14 migrants have died in the desert, due to the heat.

At this time last year, there were already 42 migrant heat-related deaths.

Overall, in 2022 there was a total of 69 deaths.
