California firefighters continue fighting “Rabbit Fire”

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Crews continue to battle the "Rabbit Fire" near Beaumont in Riverside County Sunday.

Cal Fire says the fire has burned 7,600 acres and is 10% contained. There were some road closures and evacuation warnings in place.

CBS LA reports the Rabbit Fire erupted Friday and burned at a rapid rate of speed in the Lakeview community, quickly jumping from 20 acres to 600 acres. By Saturday, the fire experienced a massive jump, fueled by the excessive heat, now sitting at more than 7,600 acres.

In response, the Yuma Fire Department (YFD) is helping the Imperial Valley Strike Team deal with the fire after California authories sent a mutual aid request on Saturday.

No structures have been damaged or lost.
