Buccaneers and Falcons Hurricane Ian relief efforts
SARASOTA, Flor. (NBC) - Team staff from the Tampa Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons built relief kits for those impacted by Hurricane Ian.
On Saturday, staff built Red Cross comfort kits and kids care packages at the Bucs' Sarasota office.
"When you can make an impact and bring awareness, not just the work we did here today, it's kind of the awareness of all that's going to go on here in south Florida and all that's needed. That's what we're here for," Rich McCkay, Atlanta Falcons' Team President, spoke.
Furthermore, they also wrote notes of encouragement for community members.
After packaging the kits, the staff delivered the kids care packages to the light of the World International Church.
"We're so grateful for their support and their help, and even them teaching their families and kids to really get involved and help the victims of the hurricane," Melissa Gissinger of the American Red Cross said.
Not only that, the church is operating as a shelter for those without homes after Ian.
"The response will be going on for months, if not years. The scars from this will be around. It was a catastrophic storm, so it's really important we keep those folks in front of, top of mind," Chris Purnell, also of the American Red Cross explained.
