Heat wave keeping the our temperatures hot

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - NEW DAILY RECORD BROKEN!!!! Today El Centro hit a high of 118° breaking the daily high record of 117° set back in 1978.

Yuma was just 1 degree shy from reaching the record high of 117° set back in 1960.

Today marks the 10th day of our current heat wave, bringing major to extreme heat concerns to the Desert Southwest.

Always remember to stay hydrated and practice heat safety.

No relief from the heat even after the sun goes down, triple digits will stretch into late tonight.

Winds will be breezy across the area where highest wind gusts could reach up to 20 MPH and after midnight winds will become lighter.

An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect through Saturday evening as major to extreme heat impact the entire Desert Southwest.

Record heat will be possible through at least Saturday with well above normal temperatures through next week.

Thunderstorm chances trend upward from west to east over the region Friday through Sunday.

The most common impact from the storm activity will be areas of strong wind as opposed to heavy rain.
