Dangerous temperatures continue with near-record heat staying possible
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - Today is another hot day, as the record heat wave is possible across central to southern Arizona for the next few days.
A daily record of 115 degrees was TIED in Yuma this afternoon, which was set back in 2000. El Centro also hit a high of 115 degrees but was just a few degrees shy of a record high of 117 degrees set back in 1978.
An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect through Saturday evening as major to extreme heat impact the entire Desert Southwest.
Major to extreme heat risks continue to be a concern for the Desert Southwest, so make sure are taking precautions and preventing heat-related illnesses.
A ridge of high pressure has shifted to the east, and still keeping the heat for the Desert Southwest.
However, with the current southerly flow, it will increase in moisture later this week, but until then drier conditions will persist for Yuma and Imperial Counties.
Even hotter temperatures are expected tomorrow where daily record high and low temperatures continue to either be tied or broken for the coming days for Yuma and El Centro.
Daily thunderstorm chances will remain low for the Desert Southwest areas through the
rest of the week, with chances increasing going through this upcoming weekend.
