Brittney Griner back in court
(KECY, KYMA/CNN) - Brittney Griner appeared in court today for the fifth hearing of her trial on drug charges in Russia.
If she is found guilty, the charges could carry a jail sentence of up to 10 years.
Griner was arrested in February at a moscow airport after vape cartridges containing hash oil were found in her luggage.
A representative from the United States provided an update on the athlete following today's proceedings.
"During the time that we were in the courtroom, as usual, we were able to spend time with Ms. Griner, talk to her, ask her about her welfare and she confirms that she is doing okay and as well as can be expected under these circumstances. We will be continuing to monitor this case as we continue to monitor closely and care for all U.S. citizens who are detained wrongfully and all U.S. citizens are in prison in Russia," said U.S. Embassy Charge D'Affaires.
Griner has pleaded guilty to the charges but has said she did not intend to break Russian law.
