Tokyo sees third day of record Covid cases as Olympic games continue

(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - Tokyo has reported a new record of daily Covid-19 cases for the third consecutive day, according to the city's metropolitan government.

There were more than 3,800 new infections as of Thursday and Olympic organizers say at least 198 cases have been linked to the summer games so far.

Tokyo is currently under a state of emergency until August 22nd.

Local media reported that three prefectures neighboring the city will ask Japanese government to add them to areas under Covid-19 state of emergency due to the surge of new infections.
