West Virginia woman celebrates 105th birthday on Fourth of July

SUMMERS COUNTY, W.V. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - While the Fourth of July is famous for being the birthday of the United States of America, it is also the birthday of a West Virginia woman, who celebrated turning 105-years-old.

Myrtle Brabb celebrated her 105th birthday on the July 4th holiday with a party with family and friends.

They shared stories of her life and how much Brabb meant to them.

Her niece, Juanita Brooks, says she was always a prim and proper lady who loved her church, her dogs, and her pet parakeets that she taught to talk.

To help celebrate Brabb's birthday, a volunteer at Hinton Hope put out a request online for birthday cards.

Brooks says that post got more than 6,000 shares and resulted in the delivery of 1,500 and seven cards with 40 states being represented. She even got a card from West Virginia Governor Jim Justice as well.
