Arizona 11-year-old gets two holes in one in the same round of golf
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Most golfers wait a lifetime to sink a hole-in-one, but Jake Martinez checked it off his bucket list, twice in one game at the age of 11.
11-year-old Jake Martinez competed this past weekend at the Palm Springs Open, a U.S. kids tournament.
Just a few holes in and he hits a drive that he will never fore-get.
"On number 5 it was a par 3, 95 yards I decided to hit a pitching wedge it takes a couple of hops and drops in the hole," Jake explained.
Rick Martinez is Jake's dad. He served as Jake's caddy throughout the tournament giving him a front-row seat to the accomplishment.
"The first one he hit was a no doubter is what I call it," Rick said. "It was never off the pin."
Jake's family was at the tournament but left before the back nine thinking they saw all the excitement of the day.
That ended up being a mistake, once Jake reached hole 12.
"The second one was pretty much a carbon copy it was the same yardage and same copy followed the same path," Rick stated.
A second hole-in-one!
It's so rare, the chances are 1 and 67 million according to the national hole-in-one registry.
"The first one i was happy about and the second one I was just like okay," Jake said.
Jake didn't win the tournament but, he of course still had a reason to celebrate-- and it's safe to say he went big.
"Let's just say I had a lot of shirley temples," Jake said.
