A dream come true! Villegas signs with Waldorf University
Kofa high school senior Harad Villegas will play college soccer with older brother Aziel in Iowa
YUMA, Ariz ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - "We're happy but we're also very sad because now both of them will be gone," Jesus Villegas said. "It's what Harad has always wanted, he worked hard for it."
Jesus had just been sitting next to his son Harad in Rillos Gymnasium at Kofa high school as both of them together signed Harad's letter of intent to play college soccer at Waldorf University in Iowa. Harad's older brother Aziel, also a graduate of Kofa high school currently plays for the Waldorf Warriors, an NAIA school in Forest City, Iowa.
"It's always been my dream to play with my brother on the same team, like starting on the same team," Harad said. "I didn't have the opportunity to do it with him in high school because I was always in the lower category but now I'm going to have a chance to do that. It's always been my dream."
That dream became a reality on Monday evening in front of his high school soccer teammates, coaches, friends and family members.
"This will be the second time we've had two brothers sign with the same school," Kofa varsity soccer head coach Jamie Nicewander said. "It's nice for a young man to be able to go on because only six to seven percent of high school athletes get that opportunity to play at the collegiate level. So, he's in a very rare and select group."
Harad plans to major in the medical realm in some sort or fashion and also plans to become a firefighter.
