Two elite players take the field one last time together
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - One final game under the lights for the boys in blue.
"It was exciting I mean …They have both been playing since they were small…I've coached them before and then when they went into high school they kept on playing together…They did a lot of damage to a lot of teams."
-Mario Nava-Esparza, Angel's dad
Saturday night's 30th annual Alex Spanos All-Star Classic game was no different for the Central boys.
Both central quarterback, Deniro Osuna and running back Angel Nava-Esparza contributed to the 44-7 North win.
"I did my best, I made most of my opportunities and it was just a great experience."
-Angel Nava-Esparza, running back
Osuna and Nava-Esparza made the ultimate duo at Central High School. For three years these guys led the Spartans to deep playoff pushes in the CIF-San Diego section playoffs, capped off by last year's appearance in the section title game. Nava-Esparza reminisced as he shared the field one last time with Osuna.
"It was amazing, I would not ask for anything else, it was an amazing experience, I hope to do more later on."
-Angel Nava-Esparza, Central running back
But, essentially this could be the last time these longtime teammates share the same field.
However, for Osuna, reality has not quite kicked in.
"Not yet…It will get to me later but yeah I will miss him."
-Deniro Osuna, Central quarterback
The Central Spartans will reunite one last time for their end of the year banquet next year.
