YRMC’s surgery technologist program preps students for success

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Are you interested in working in the operating room (OR) as a surgery tech?

Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) started its tuition-free surgery technologist program just over a year ago and has just accepted its third group of candidates to start the program.

They play a big role in the OR alongside doctors and nurses and YRMC has been searching for local candidates to join the surgery technologist Program which you can be a part of if you meet the requirements.

The goal is training-to-hire local candidates to work operating room.

Nurse educator, Melissa Belcher says the team is excited to see new faces in the OR.

“We have some amazing people who work here in the or who are highly capable of training, so we thought why not train some homegrown Yumans,” said Belcher.

Belcher says this is a six-month-long, intensive, hands-on program and shares what requirements are needed to apply.

“The couple requirements that we have is that they do take an anatomy and physiology one and two class just so they have some background in anatomy and then the other thing is we do require some type of bedside patient care experience," said Belcher.

If you’re interested in joining YRMC's surgery technologist training program, you can contact Melissa Belcher at mbelcher@yumaregional.org.
