Governor Ducey gives heated response to New York City Mayor on border crisis
(KYMA, KECY) - Turning a blind eye.
Those are the words from Arizona Governor Doug Ducey toward the Biden Administration and others surrounding the current crisis at the southern border.
The Governor took to Twitter on Thursday night to specifically call out the New York City Mayor - Eric Adams - after a press conference from New York where he criticized leaders in both Arizona and Texas for sending immigrants to Washington, D.C. and New York in buses to ease the influx at the border.
At the press conference, a reporter (unseen in video) stated that Adams himself was blaming Texas and Arizona for putting people on buses and sending them to New York but said those government officials from those states denied that and said they were sending them to D.C., not New York.
Then he asks Adams: "were you mistaken by that? How can you justify that?"
Adams responded with this:
"The people who are sending people away, they tell you something differently and automatically you believe them. I wish you treated me that way," said Mayor Adams. "You believe them? The mere fact that they sent people out of their state, people who were seeking refuge in our country, and they sent them away. Did they deny that?"
The reporter responded by saying, "no they said they sent them to D.C., not New York. Even the migrants themselves said it wasn't the government that sent them away."
Adams then continued to criticize their handling of the situation.
"They sent them away, out of their state," added Adams. "Our country is home of the free, land of the brave. We do not be cowards and send people away looking for help. All of us came from somewhere."
In a tweet Thursday night, Ducey responded to the video, calling out Adams for his lack of understanding about the border situation.
"NYC Mayor really has no clue what's happening at our nation's southern border. Our communities have been strained for a long time because of the border crisis. The real lack of compassion comes from the Biden admin who has turned a blind eye."
Ducey goes on to say Arizona and other states are providing asylum seekers transportation on a voluntary basis to Washington D.C., not New York.
