German Hernandez makes deal with state, provides information on Lucero from jail

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A new face made waves in Yuma County Superior Court on Wednesday morning with a detailed testimony of information against Izak Lucero, who is on trial for murder.

25-year-old German Hernandez was called on by state prosecutors to testify in the third day of proceedings.

This off the heels of Hernandez coming to the state and giving information about what 26-year-old Izak Lucero had vocalized in custody about killing Luis Delgadillo in August 2020.

In turn, Hernandez signed a testimonial agreement with the state to tell the truth about what he heard in exchange for a lesser sentence for his crimes.

Hernandez is currently in custody on aggravated assault and aggravated domestic violence charges from 2020.

He has since been waiting to be sentenced in order to testify in court for Lucero's trial.

Hernandez took the stand Wednesday morning and state prosecutor, Meaghan Gallagher, questioned him about what he had come forward with.

In a point blank statement, Hernandez told the jury about what Lucero had addmitted.

"He was bragging about how he shot a man right outside a car window," said Hernandez. "I guess that individual wanted to speak with him about something and this man didn't want to hear it. So he just shot him like he was nothing."

The testimony carried on and dove into detail about the roots between Hernandez and Lucero who knew each other in school and the structure of the cell blocks where Hernandez heard Lucero make the statements, along with Gabriel Aragon who is currently in custody for murder, as well.

The state also called on Levi Jones, of the Yuma Police Department.

Jones, who currently works as a School Resource Officer at Cibola High School, works with gang-related instances and teaches younger officers about gangs.

On the stand, he accounted his knowledge of Lucero being part of the Okie Town street gang in Yuma and his multiple face-to-face interactions with him, dating back to 2014.

Jones was able to identify Lucero and point to the Okie Town tattoos he has displayed on his neck and face.

The trial picks back up on Friday.
