Border Patrol K-9 sniffs out liquid methamphetamine
Alerts to the underside of car, found in rear feul tank
SALTON CITY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The U.S, Border Patrol arrested an American citizen accused of smuggling liquid methamphetamine through the Highway 86 checkpoint Thursday morning.
El Centro Sector agents say it began at about 7:30 a.m. when a 37-year-old man drove up to the immigration checkpoint in a white 2007 Chevrolet Silverado.
During secondary inspection, a K-9 alerted to the bottom of the Silverado. Agents then used a fiber optic scope to peek into the car's rear fuel tank.
That's when they found what appeared to be a "white, slimy substance."
Public Affairs Officer for Border Patrol Anna Davalos describes, "Moments later the slimy substance began to turn white and crystalize. This type of concealment and substance is consistent with liquid methamphetamine."
Agents confirm the liquid contents inside the fuel tank tested positive for methamphetamine.
Border Patrol turned the man, car and drugs over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
