Mexicali becomes first municipality in the state to offer COVID-19 vaccine to ages 40-49
MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY) - Health officials said Mexicali becomes the first city in the state to begin administering the COVID vaccine to people between the ages of 40-49 years old.
Secretary of Health in Baja California, Alonso Óscar Pérez Rico, said the next age group comes after seeing a low influx of the population between 50 and 59 years old.
La Voz de la Frontera reports the Ministry of Health in Mexicali received 22,740 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and issued to the vaccination sites in Plaza Cachanilla, Plaza Sendero, FEX, and the military facilities.
In addition, health officials say they're hoping to receive approximately 100,000 doses of the Astra Zeneca vaccine. However, they will continue to vaccinate 50-59 years of age in Mexicali and San Felipe.
