Pennsylvania couple shares how they tipped off authorities looking for Michael Burham
WARREN COUNTY, Penn. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - It was one tip from a brave couple that really turned the tide for law enforcement in Pennsylvania, and sealed the fate of Michael Burham, who had been on the run for more than a week.
Ron and Cindy Ecklund are the Warren County residents who, when checking on their barking dog Tucker, came face-to-face with the fugitive.
What was just a normal day for the Ecklunds became a day they won't soon forget. The couple says that they were relaxing on their front porch.
Cindy had just gotten home from from work when they noticed something strange: Tucker was barking more than usual. So, they jumped in their golf cart to check out what was going on in the woods behind their property.
"Cindy and I got on the golf cart and started driving down to the creek. And Tucker was still barking and we get down there, started driving up the edge of the creek and Cindy gets out of the cart to get the dog and all of a sudden this guy stands up and I says whoa what are you doing, he says camping, well I knew who he was as soon as he stood up and I saw him and I said Cindy get back in the cart and let's go and I said ok have a nice day and we started driving back and dialed 911," Ron detailed.
Cindy also added, "Let someone deal with it...that knows how to deal with that kind of thing versus trying to be a real hero."
The Ecklunds say they aren't heroes, and that placing the 911 call is what anyone would have done given the same circumstance.
