Mississippi dog survives tornado, family home damaged

MOSS POINT, Miss. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A family who wasn't home when a tornado ripped through Moss Point this week feared the worst for their puppy, who was in an outdoor kennel.

When they got home, however, they found the kennel and the pup was just fine!

The pup, named Scooby-Doo Mickey Mouse, was right there in his kennel as the E-F-2 tornado struck.

He's a six-month-old German Shepherd mix who belongs to the Sabino family, and was named by their five-year-old daughter.

The Sabinos were at a doctor's office during the storm, and on the drive back home, they couldn't help but assume the worst.

One lucky pup

Three houses on their street were so damaged that they'll have to be demolished.

The Sabinos roof was damaged, and walls will need to be repaired, but not the dog kennel.

Scooby-Doo Mickey Mouse is one lucky pup.

"Literally, when you can look and see a roof missing off a house, and it's two or three streets over, you think, 'How did my dog make it?' But he did, and as you can see, he's still back there," said Charles Sabino, Scooby-Doo Mickey Mouse's owner.

Their puppy was a little shaken up after the storm. They took him on a walk, and he's back to his happy puppy self.
