D.C. church rings its bells to honor Pope Benedict

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC) - Tributes to Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI continue to pour in from across the world.

Benedict died earlier Saturday at the age of 95.

In Washington, D.C., The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception marked his passing by tolling its bell 95 times to commemorate his 95 years of life on earth.

Furthermore, the bells began ringing promptly at 9:34 am. That was the same time at which Benedict passed away in the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican.

Immaculate conception also hung black-bunting at its entrance.
