Local middle school students participate in mock trial

SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Local students experience first-hand what it takes to work in the court system.

Somerton Middle School students had a mock trial as part of the Campesinos Sin Fronteras Empowering Future Leaders Camp.

The goal is to encourage kids to get involved in a career in law.

"I know some of our kids are interested on being lawyers and careers related to court so it does expose them to more careers that they haven't considered before," said Mariana Valencia, Campesinos Sin Fronteras Ahead Educator.

Wednesday was the first of two parts of the mock trial at the Somerton Municipal Court.
