Border apprehensions slightly decrease in Yuma
CBP's June apprehension numbers show local agents made over 22,000 arrests last month
YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - Total apprehensions at the southern border just passed last year's record number, and there are still three months left in this fiscal year.
Customs and Border Protection says in June agents made just over 200,000 apprehensions, bringing the total to over one point seven million.
Locally, Yuma agents made over 22,000 arrests, an average of about 750 a day.
There were far fewer encounters in the El Centro sector, with just over 6,000.
Title 42, still in place at the border, was used on just under half of all migrants who cross the border.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, migrants expelled under Title 42 often try and cross back into the U.S. multiple times.
This leads to the total number of apprehensions being higher than the total number of migrants trying to seek asylum in the united states.
