Double homicide suspect seen in court first time
BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The man accused of murdering a married couple in their Brawley home made his first appearance in court.
Court was full Thursday as the suspect walk to the center of the court and faced the judge.
The suspect's assigned attorney was not present so he was quickly assigned to another.
The senior district attorney tells us why this happened.
“The assigned attorney has not has the opportunity because the defendant was in the safety cell to probably make a contact with that defendant... once he makes contact with that defendant he will have more information on if he can represent him,” said Senior Deputy District Attorney Margaret Tafoya.
Thursday's appearance was very short.
The suspect's next court date will be on Tuesday, May 2 at the Brawley Superior Court.
The suspect is still being held with no bail.
