Arizona State Prison in Yuma sees increase of COVID-19 cases

The Yuma Prison Complex now has the most COVID-19 cases within Arizona State Prisons.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry (ADCRR) announced Friday, 35 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total to 97 inmates with COVID-19.

So far, the ADCRR website shows 421 inmates have been tested for COVID-19. 314 of those inmates have tested negative, and 10 inmates still have results pending.

The website also lists 25 inmates to be recovered from the virus.

Tension with inmates' loved ones continue to rise as they see an increase in the number of positive coronavirus cases.

Most recently News 11 reported about one Human Rights group who is fighting for the early release of certain inmates, to help prevent spread within the prison.
