New at-home COVID-19 test kits available to healthcare workers and first responders
Pixel by LabCorp intends to make the at-home COVID-19 testing kits more broadly available in the coming weeks.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A new at-home testing kit for the coronavirus has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Pixel by LabCorp has introduced a self-collection kit for COVID-19 testing, priced at $119.
The FDA says this is a convenient and reliable option and the process seems to be pretty simple.
Complete a short eligibility survey of the common pre-testing questions to determine the likelihood you were exposed to the virus.
A sample collection kit is mailed to your home.
You’d collect your own sample by a simple swab of your nasal cavity, which is mailed back to LabCorp for testing.
LabCorp says test results are accessible online within 2-days.
This at-home test kit is currently strictly limited to healthcare workers and first responders.
However, LabCorp intends to make the at-home COVID-19 testing kits more broadly available in the coming weeks.
The Yuma County Health Department says, "The test kits we have are reserved for that exact same group, plus the high-risk category.”
Until the general public is granted access to purchasing an at-home kit, if you are experiencing severe symptoms you can still get tested locally.
