Protests held outside Dodger Stadium over Pride Night

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Dodger Stadium hosted LGBTQ+ Pride Night on Friday and was met with protests outside of the venue.

The decision to host Pride Night follows weeks of backlash from Catholic groups, and Senator Marco Rubio, over the involvement of a group of self-described "queer and trans nuns."

The Dodgers have held Pride Nights for 10 years, but Friday's event planned to recognize the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (SPI) with a community hero award.

The nuns are active in community and charity programs, but their involvement in Pride Night is being seen to some as a mockery of Christianity.

Protesters filled street corners while chanting and waving signs with phrases such as "Stop Anti-Catholic Hate," and counter-protesters were also present with signs in defense of the LGBTQ+ community.

Law enforcement agents could be seen stationed throughout various portions of the protest.
