Arizona hosts World Hip-Hop Dance Championship
PHOENIX, Ariz. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - This past weekend, more than 3,000 of the best hip-hop dancers are competing for a world title.
The Hip-Hop Dance Championship started on Sunday, July 30 at the Ariozna Grand Resort & Spa There are people from 55 different countries in town for the championship, including people from the valley.
This is known as one of the biggest hip-hop events in the world. Competitors flew in from countries as far as The Philippines.
"Our crew, HQ, we haven't advanced that much since the pandemic. It's been a dream of ours to compete in HHI, so why not try for it this year," said Jacob Jaurigue, a dancer.
The event is hosted by Hip-Hop International (HHI), which is the creator of MTV's America's Best Dance Crew.
The dancers are going through a series of elimination rounds. The field will narrow down throughout this week and next week. A champion will be crowned at Mullet Arena on Sunday, August 6.
