One student injured following altercation at Brawley Union High School

BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A Brawley Union High School (BUHS) student is injured after being stabbed on campus.

The incident happened in the courtyard leaving one student in the hospital and two in custody.

Octavio Ayala, the Student Resource Officer (SRO) at BUHS, says "There were some kids that started screaming there was a fight and everyone responded to the incident and that's how we found out what took place today… All parties were separated at the time immediately and the whole crowd was disbursed,".

The SRO says it was an isolated incident.

"It didn't come up from anything else, no gang affiliation or nothing like that, two students got into an altercation and it was a physical altercation," says Ayala.

To ensure the safety of all students and staff, the school was placed on lockdown while medical teams and law enforcement resolved the situation.

The SRO says that there is zero tolerance for any type of weapon on campus.

Ayala says "No weapons are allowed on campus, no knives, guns, or stuff like that. It's against school policy and it's against the law. That's not something common but it happens,".

He shares what the school and police department's next actions will be.

"We're just going keep an eye on any activity or rumors going around. We have a really good security staff and agency here. Everybody responded quickly and addressed this situation and issue… We're going to make sure that all students are safe and secure," he adds

Brawley Police Department (BPD) says the boy who was stabbed is now in stable condition.

Anyone with information is urged to contact BPD.
