Alec Baldwin’s “Rust” shooting trial begins this week
UPDATE (8:26 AM): Jury selection has begun in the involuntary manslaughter trial of actor Alec Baldwin in New Mexico.
Baldwin and his children arrived Tuesday morning at the Santa Fe courthouse.
He is charged for his role in the deadly incident that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie "Rust."
In October of 2021, Baldwin was rehearsing with a prop gun when the gun went off, killing Hutchins and injuring the movie's director Joel Souza.
The actor has insisted he did not pull the trigger and the weapon misfired, but FBI testing concluded the colt revolver would not have fired without the trigger being pulled.
The movie's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was overseeing the project's weapons, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter earlier this year.

Baldwin departed the courthouse in Santa Fe Monday afternoon after a day-long hearing to go over pre-trial motions. The judge in the case ruling that Baldwin's role as a producer of the "Rust" film isn't relevant to the trial.
Baldwin is charged with involuntary manslaughter for the 2021 killing of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. He has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and maintains that the gun malfunctioned.
Jury selection gets underway on Tuesday. The trial is expected to last about 10 days. If convicted, Baldwin faces up to 18 months in jail.
