Earthquakes shake the Desert Southwest
MEXICALI, Mexico (KYMA, KECY) - Aftershocks continue rattling the area after a Magnitude 4.9 earthquake hit the Mexicali valley.
The earthquake activity began on Sunday at 11:22 a.m.
There have been more than 20 aftershocks since the first earthquake.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the first earthquake struck about 9 kilometers north-northwest of Delta, Baja California, Mexico.
Residents of Imperial and Yuma counties also reported feeling the tremors.
Thankfully no damages or injuries were reported, but it's something we're somewhat used to, especially following the massive 7.2 Easter Sunday quake that hit our area 14 years ago.
The epicenter of that quake is close to these new quakes along a major fault line.
The Yuma Emergency Management encourages families to build an emergency kit and create an earthquake plan to stay prepared.
When building your emergency kit, include water, a first aid kit, and nonperishable food.
