USDA partners with Winterhaven County Water District to improve water for community
WINTERHAVEN, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced it is partnering with the Winterhaven County Water District to build a new groundwater well that will provide clean, reliable drinking water for the community and ensure their office building is accessible for all.
Winterhaven will be receiving $1.5 million.
“And this is really part of a broader investment that we’re announcing today which is over 81 million dollars in funding across United States it’s actually two hundred and eight projects across 42 states,” said USDA Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development Farah Ahmad.
The water district supports a small remote community in Winterhaven.
Repairs are needed to bring the water system and the Winterhaven County Water District office into accessibility and safety compliance.
“We’re investing in more than two hundred projects nationwide projects that will help rural Americans thrive and insure resilient and strong communities for years to come, we’re investing in things such as housing, water infrastructure, community facilities,” said California State Director Maria Gallegos Herrera.
Deputy Under secretary Ahmad joined California State Director Herrera in Winterhaven, California to make the announcement.
“The Biden-Harris Administration and USDA believe that all people, regardless of where they live, deserve access to clean water, quality housing and reliable health care,” Deputy Under Secretary Ahmad said. “The investment we’re announcing in Winterhaven’s water system today will give peace of mind and assurance that the water is safe and clean every time anyone here in the community turns on the faucet.”
USDA said the investment is part of a nationwide announcement that is providing funds for other underserved rural communities in the U.S. including Winterhaven.
