$8.5 million in state funds presented to Calexico and Brawley for upcoming housing project

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The California Department of Housing and Community Development HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) presented checks this week for both Brawley and Calexico to assist with affordable housing.

The City of Brawley received a $5,788,142 check that will go towards senior housing.

Accepting the check representing the City of Brawley was Councilmember Luke Hamby and Councilmember Gil Rebollar.  

The City of Calexico also received a check of $2,727,482 that will go towards farmworker housing. The farmworker housing will be named Remington Villas.  

The project has already begun and will be having a groundbreaking ceremony soon, according to the mayor of Calexico.  

Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia presented the awards to the representatives of each city. 

“It’s important that we continue to advocate for the building of housing in the region and recognizing how difficult and costly buying a home is today and so creating spaces for those individuals to have their first step into respectable dignified housing is important to us,” said Garcia.
