City council awards $4.7M contract for north east area road improvements
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Major road improvements are on the way, with a price tag of nearly $5 million.
A bid was awarded to a local company by the city council for Yuma's north end area near Colorado and 8th street.
Yuma’s Director of Engineering, David Wostenburg says this project may be mammoth in scale but is long overdue.
Wostenburg continues, “the pavement has deteriorated in that area and asphalt pavement, improving ADA accessibility sidewalks and ramps bringing it up to ADA compliance.”
A resolution consent was also passed by the city council seeking federal funds for West Wetlands Park.
If the application is approved, the federal dollars would be used to create a pathway. Making the park more accessible and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant.
Wayne Parker who frequents the park feels the new additions would benefit more people.
“My wife is a perfect example she has multiple myeloma and its difficult for her to walk.”
Parker went on to say that the park and outdoor scenery, “it’s very relaxing just a wonderful way for people with limited physical abilities to be out and about, fresh air sunshine, it’s great thing.”
The upgrades at West Wetlands park are budgeted for $60,000.
The next city council meeting will be on April 19 where discussions will continue to drill down the improvements on Yuma's north end.
