Yuma’s local law enforcement agencies brings community together at 20th annual G.A.I.N. event
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - October is Crime Prevention Month. Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods (G.A.I.N.) was an event held by police agencies statewide.
The G.A.I.N. evented started Saturday night from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the Target store parking lot in the Yuma Palms area.
Significantly, Target and other local businesses provided a limited supply of complimentary hotdogs, chips, water and sodas.
In addition, the agencies joined forces and promoted awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity.
Not only that, the event enables area law enforcement, military, fire and rescue agents, brought some of their equipment to display to the public.
"I hope they gain some knowledge about how we work. They get to climb onto the equipment and see what we do, but I just want them to get to know us so that they are not afraid to come up to us, and talk to us on the street." Sgt. Lori Franklin, Public Affairs for the Yuma Police Department, spoke.
Topics the event covered
Furthermore, other local organizations and nonprofits were present and all participants spoke on a variety of topics.
These topics were safety programs, careers and public safety issues.
Additionally, the event allowed the community to meet first responders, military and non-profit personnel.
Adding to that, by meeting these agencies, this helped build relationships and make the community a safer place.
