Rising jet fuel prices may affect airfares
(KYMA, KECY/CBS) - Gas prices continue to go up and plane tickets may be affected soon.
It's about to be Spring Break travel season and some airports are seeing high numbers again compared to pre-Omicron.
"For us to see our volumes be as strong right now as they would be during the holidays, that's pretty significant. That's definitely saying something," says SFO Spokesperson Doug Yakel.
Demand for travel is increasing the price of tickets after being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic for so long.
"We've seen average airfares rising, even before the current crisis in Ukraine and jet fuel surge, because demand was coming back so hard and airlines were starting to kind of, adjust pricing for that overall," said Willis Orlando of Scott's Cheap Flights.
However, the price of gas has been going up and so has the price of jet fuel.
The effect of rising jet fuel prices may not be seen for a few weeks or at least a couple of months since airlines tend to buy a lot of fuel ahead of time.
