Community comes together for clean-up in the Foothills
After those in the neighborhood noticed trash beginning to become an issue, they gathered on Saturday to pick it up - 13 On Your Side's Luis Lopez reports
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Residents out in the Foothills came together to clean up their neighborhood earlier Saturday. It all took place near the corner of 40th Street and Avenue 8-E. Near there lies a patch of desert typically used to drive off-road vehicles.
But recently, the community has noticed some trash throughout the area, which is why they gathered on Saturday for the clean-up.
Michelle Britton is the woman who put the event together. She mentioned how happy she was to see all the response she got when she had the idea.
“Oh it’s amazing, and not just people that have come out to help, but a disposal company donated a couple of dumpsters, we’ve had different restaurants donate gift certificates that we’re raffling off as prizes and there’s been a good couple dozen people out here working hard, I’m so grateful,” Britton said.
The clean up started at 8:00 a.m. and lasted until about 5 p.m., and the crew was able to completely fill both of the dumpsters that were donated.
