Annual rib cookoff puts 20-teams head to head to see who is truly the region's Grill Master

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Soon, those turkey leftovers will be long gone and you'll have a little time to clear your palate. It's time for this year's Rachel Determan Rib Cookoff.

Yuma Catholic High School is no stranger to competition and in most cases, faceoffs are between athletes and young scholars. But, not on December 4th.

On December 4th from 11 a.m. to 3 pm. 20 teams and their coveted recipes will take to the field to see who will be crowned the event's grill master.

Tickets are $10 and the proceeds from the event will go towards scholarships and keep tuition affordable.

The event is named after Rachel Determan a local teen who lost her battle to leukemia in 2008, Rachel was just 13-years old. The Determan family continues to have strong ties to Yuma Catholic High School and it was Rachel's love for cooking that inspired them and the school to create the rib cookoff.

Yuma Catholic is located at 2100 W. 28th Street.
