Electric car sales going up alongside gas prices
Consumers switching to alternative
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KYMA, KECY/CNN) - Recent reports found that California's gas prices have reached another peak, however, that also means electric cars are meeting a new demand.
Leslie Gifford is a Tesla car owner and she spoke on this trend stating, "It's my husband's, one of his cars, and now I drive it a lot probably because of the gas prices are crazy."
Electric and hybrid cars are very fuel-efficient but can also run on their namesake: electricity, making them a good alternative for those who aren't happy with recent gas prices.
AAA Spokesperson, Doug Shupe, went on to say, "We don't anticipate that the demand for fuel is going to decrease anytime soon."
AAA also believes that the vaccine correlates to people wanting to go out after being shut inside for a year.
"Even though it sucks to have such high gas prices maybe a little bit of good will come out of it, people start shifting to electric and hybrid," said Benji Miller, a Prius owner.
Kelley Blue Book and Cox Automotive revealed data showing how electric vehicles sales are up by 200%.
Miller also expressed, "You look at your monthly expenses when you have a hybrid - it just goes down by about half!"
As technology improves and becomes more affordable, these gas alternatives may become the new norm since there can be something for everyone such as electric SUVs which are now available.
"There's so many more options on the market these days that in addition to the higher gas prices, and the environmental benefits people are considering them because they just make sense for some families," said Shupe.
AAA urges those interested in electric and hybrid cars to do some research to ensure these vehicles will fit their needs.
