DOJ asks for order to block Texas Abortion Law

(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - The Justice Department asked a federal judge to issue a temporary restraining order to block enforcement of the controversial Texas Abortion Law.

The law, which passed in May and went into effect earlier this month, bans abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.

The legal brief comes after the Biden Administration filed a suit against Texas last week, saying the law is in open defiance of the U.S. Constitution.

The request could move quickly through the courts, ultimately landing at the U.S. Supreme Court and it could determine whether clinics in Texas can once again performa abortions after six weeks.

The Supreme Court allowed the Texas law to remain in effect earlier this month, in response to a separate legal challenge.
