Pennsylvania lawmakers push for own vote audit after visit to Arizona

(KYMA, KECY/ NBC News) - After a trip to visit the 2020 election audit in Maricopa County in Arizona, one Pennsylvania lawmaker says he'd like to see a similar move in his own state.

Senator Doug Mastriano was a primary supporter of former President Donald Trump's challenges to Joe Biden's win in the Keystone state and he's pushing for a forensic audit of election results.

Mastriano toured the Arizona audit when Senator Chris Dush and Representative Rob Kauffman. A visit he said was not paid for by taxpayers.

The audit was authorized by the Arizona State Senate and is being conducted by the private company, Cyber Ninjas.

The operation has been criticized by some state and local officials in Arizona. Pennsylvania Governor Wolf and Attorney General, Josh Shapiro, have also blasted the trip by lawmakers.

Mastriano took to social media this weekend to talk about the trip.

"For what reason would anyone be opposed to a forensic, scientific audit of certain counties?" asked Mastriani. "Who would be opposed to that? Why wouldn't anyone be behind that?"

The head of the Senate's State Government Committee said he'd listen to what the group had to say about the trip, but his counterpart in the House tweeted that the House wouldn't be moving forward with any audits of previous elections.
