Transient’s murder remains unsolved

YUMA, Ariz (KYMA, KSWT) - In this week’s cracking the case we dig into a 34-year-old cold case of a homeless man known to be generous.

Thomas Town Gonzales was stabbed to death nearby what used to be the adult center in 19-85 but today is home to a nutrition program for seniors.

Gonzales was known to be a good guy among the transient community.

Throughout the police investigation, officers interviewed several people and were led to a couple who was no longer in Arizona.

The wife claimed her husband murdered Gonzales, but the husband never admitted to the murder.

"A lot of things matched, the problem was having physical evidence to tie these two to the homicide,” explained Sgt. Lori Franklin, Yuma Police Department.

The two were never prosecuted for the murder.

As far as why the man would have possibly murdered Gonzales, police say there could have been racial hate fueling the stabbing or it could have been booze-related.

YPD added the couple who had been in Yuma for only two weeks had the reputation to bully others for their liquor.

If you have any information on the murder of Mr. Gonzales call the Yuma Police Department or to stay anonymous call 78-CRIME.
