Art Co-Op stays open thanks to grant

The new year has definitely started out right for the arts community in Yuma. The Littlewood Fine Art and Community Co-Op was just awarded a $10,000 grant. A major victory for the art group as it was reported just last month, that they were in danger of closing their doors. This money will not only help them throughout the year, but will also help them further their Creative Communities Institute Program. The grant was donated by the Flinn Foundation. A program that supports art programs in rural Arizona communities.

“I wrote the grant application. We have a new team for year two of the Creative Communities Institute Program and this extension is really going to be a shot in the arm and a new life here at the co-op and for Yuma, because again this second half the project is going to involve up to 600 Yumans. 85% of the money is going to be spent on materials, software, and hardware,” said Isaac Russell, the founder of the Littlewood Fine Art and Community Co-Op.

Russell also adds that the monthly memberships and the monthly community supporters are the other reason the Co-Op is able to really make it for another year. Without the grant money and the communities help, the art program wouldn’t of survived.

Other good news to report, The Yuma Art Center was also awarded $10,000 to continue their mission in furthering the development of art in our community.
