Gosar responds to family campaign ad as ‘hateful’ and ‘lies’
After a victorious win from the Midterm Election, Republican Arizona U.S. Representative Paul Gosar has been re-elected for another 2-year term for District Four. However, the win was not made easy for Gosar without most of his family unsupportive of his campaign.
In a video campaign ad from Democrat opponent David Brill, six of Gosar’s siblings from Wyoming were criticizing his lack of service in healthcare, job growth, and morality.
The video racked up to over a million views on social media and caused controversy nationwide. Now that the election is over, 13 On Your Side spoke with Gosar for his thoughts and to see if there was any tension still left behind with his family.
“You don’t pick your family,” said Gosar. “Your family is who they are and you’re stuck with them and some of your family members don’t give you the opportunity as you gave them.”
Gosar said he respects his family’s difference of views and opinions and describes it as the ‘American Experience’ for him.
“It was a little humbling that I saw some discourse with some of my siblings. I saw such ‘hateful’ and ‘lies’ and you know, campaigning should be about what you could do for people and what you have done for people and be accountable.”
Gosar said he welcomed his first grandchild in his life and is hoping his six siblings will find faith in themselves to move past the attack made against his campaign.
