Ribbon-cutting ceremony for new district office

Yuma Union High School District and CORE Construction will host a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony for its new district office and Vista Alternative High School sites on Thursday, October 18, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Guest speakers will present, including YUHSD Superintendent Gina Thompson and VAHS Principal Brett Surguine.

Tours will be provided to the public following the dedication ceremony.

“It’s incredibly exciting to officially welcome the community to our new facility,” YUHSD Superintendent Gina Thompson said. “We have been working out of the district office and Vista for the past couple of months, but we wanted to wait until temperatures cooled off before inviting everyone to our new home. The evening will be a small way of saying thank you to all of those, including first-and-foremost the voters, who helped make this beautiful complex a reality.”

Both buildings and the YUHSD professional development center were constructed in fewer than 14 months. The total cost of the project was $6,730,783.

Voters approved it as part of a 2015 ballot initiative.
