Woman tries smuggling drugs into prison
A woman is behind bars after officials said she tried to smuggle drugs into Calipatria State Prison.
On Saturday, a 31-year-old woman from Los Angeles, Calif. visiting Calipatria State Prison was arrested on suspicion of bringing marijuana onto prison grounds.
Julie Rose Dirks came to the prison to visit an inmate when the Gate House Officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle as she was being processed into the institution.
Dirks consented to a search. Nothing was found on Dirks, but staff discovered one clear plastic bag with suspected marijuana which had a weight of 15.0 grams, that has a prison value of $3,7950.00. Dirks was booked into the Imperial County Jail and is facing felony charges. If convicted Dirks faces three to five years in prison.
