Sex offender apprehended after illegally entering the United States

Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported sex offender near Ocotillo, Calif. on Sunday night.

Agents spotted a man around 24 miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry at approximately 8 p.m. The man was arrested and transported to the El Centro Station for processing where he was identified as Javier Reyes-Gomez.

Reyes-Gomez had three felony conviction for sexual acts performed on a minor; to include, Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a child under 14, which he was sentenced to 56 months in jail.

Furthermore, record checks revealed Gomez subsequently was ordered removed by an Immigration Judge on Mar. 2nd, 2002.

“This offender victimized children in Riverside, a community not very close to the border,” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim. “I think this is a good example of how border security efforts and the actions of the U.S. Border Patrol impact communities not traditionally associated with the border. This serious criminal will not get a chance to return to Riverside and potentially victimize anyone else.”

Gomez, a 28-year-old Mexican citizen, will be prosecuted for Re-Entry-After-Removal as a convicted sex offender.
