Topic of the Day: Traffickers target children

13 On Your Side wants to know your thoughts:

As the saying goes “where there’s a will, there’s a way” and that’s the perfect way to describe the drug trade. A billion dollar industry with no end in sight which forces nations across the globe to intensify their efforts to stop the flow of illicit drugs. But, as countries build walls, put boots on the ground and use the latest tech to combat the problem, drug syndicates are also discovering new ways to meet the demand.

Along with hiding drugs in secret compartments in cars, using drug tunnels and even using cannons, smugglers have begun using small children to traffic their drugs across the border. The children are promised money and gifts to carry drugs strapped to their bodies across U.S. ports. Many times the children are students who reside in Mexico but because of their citizenship attend schools in the U.S. and their routine crosses between borders make them easy prey to smugglers.
