Firefighters still battling blaze along U.S. – Mexico border

A fire that started Wednesday around noon in Yuma County and Mexico has now burned a total of 114 acres.

According to the Bureau of Land Management the fire started in Mexico, but then spread to the U.S. On Wednesday firefighters with BLM and Rural/Metro were battling the blaze. Some firefighters were in the area of County 9 1/2 E Street and Levee Road.

So far the fire has burned 74 acres on the U.S. side.

BLM said firefighters are holding and improving lines established to contain the blaze. They are also trying to stop it’s progression.

They expect to have the fire contained by Thursday evening.

Still no word on what caused the fire.
