Yuma City Council announces $214 million dollar budget

​​​​​ Yuma city council has just approved their 2017-2018 fiscal year budget of $214 million dollars.

It was a 4 to 3 vote with Mayor Doug Nicholls in favor of the budget being passed. Mayor Nicholls noted the budget contains no tax increase, nor an increase in the levy. Other council members who voted to prolong the budget process, said they wanted more time to explore possible cuts that could then fund other projects like road maintenance.

They restored $200,000 dollars in funds from the hospitality tax to the Yuma visitors bureau, raising their total funded amount from the city to $600,000 dollars.The council also voted to delay action on the 5-year capital improvement program as well as introduced this years property and mall maintenance district tax levies that will be voted on at a later time. The next city council meeting takes place on May 17th, 2017.
